Poker is a very common game on the Enterprise ...but there is no form of money in the federation, or at least not as we know it. Sounds like it would be a boring game.

do they have credits? I don’t think thats a thing. I remember Picard saying that there is no pay for serving in starfleet in one of the movies.

Quark mentions taking federation credits at his bar in Deep Space Nine. I’m not sure how anybody earns them, but they mention them a couple of times.

In high school, when my friends and I had no money, we would play poker with the wager being a stunt. Every time you increased your bet, it meant the difficulty of the stunt would be increased, and whoever had the lowest hand when called had to perform the stunt. The stunts included, but were not limited to: eating incredibly spicy sauces and/or peppers, swimming long distances across nearby retention ponds, flirting with the largest women at the local WalMart, and the like. It came to blows more often than not, the subject of which being alleged (but nearly always unsubstantiated) cheating on behalf of the winner(s). It was outrageously fun.

There is currency. Gene Roddenberry said that currency wasn’t supposed to be a thing in Trek, but it still was. It’s more that people didn’t carry money on them usually anymore.

The Star Trek Original Series novel “Crisis on Centarus” mentions Federation credits, Vulcan work units, and American Express. It also tells how captains in the Federation are paid quite handsomely, and Kirk has used some of his pay to buy 1200 acres on Centarus over the years.

The wagers are all redshirts bellow them. The winner gets to decide which ones die in seasons 3 and 4.
